The British Columbia High School Bhangra Competition (BCHBC) Society is a non-profit organization, made up entirely of volunteers, that endorses and encourages youth to excel in a traditional dance form that is good for their health and personal development. Our mandate is to provide students with education awards and scholarship opportunities so that they can excel in higher learning and make future contributions to their communities. BCHBC is pleased to announce that over $165,000.00 in scholarships and awards was made available over the years to BC high school students by the society at the “BCHBC Scholarships & Awards” events in front of delighted parents, relatives, teachers and other supporters.
The BCHBC championship event is intended as a showcase for secondary school youth to exhibit the art form of Bhangra, an energetic dance form and team sport, in schools throughout the province. Creating school teams and competing with fellow youth allows students to have fun while also fostering team and school spirit. Through the “High School Hype” initiative students are able to support their team and school at the competition by showing their spirit and cheering on their teams with their fellow students in their school’s own specially designated high school hype section. BCHBC is a stepping stone for students to proceed to the competitive arena of higher level competitions.
